The History of Consciousness Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of part-time Lecturers who may be appointed to teach occasional courses in and across the following subject areas: philosophy and theory; race and ethnicity; gender & sexuality; political economy and social movements; media, aesthetics, and poetics. Candidates must be willing to teach both seminars and large lecture courses.
The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties. Candidates with three or more years of university level teaching experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the Lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.
- Master’s degree or higher (or equivalent foreign degree) in a field relating to one of the advertised subject areas (philosophy and theory; race and ethnicity; gender & sexuality; political economy and social movements; media, aesthetics, and poetics) at the time of application.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in higher education in one or more of the advertised subject area .
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.
