Position description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for Junior, Assistant or Associate Research Specialist under the direction of Professor Seth Rubin. The Rubin Research Group uses a combination of biochemical, structural, and cell biology approaches to study proteins involved in cell-cycle regulation and cancer. This position will involve active participation in several lab projects, performing tasks such as molecular cloning, protein expression, protein purification, cell culture, creation of CRISPR-engineered cell lines, and biochemical and cell biology assays. The selected candidate will be highly enthusiastic and motivated to work and learn in a fast-paced research environment.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Junior Specialist, Assistant Specialist or Associate Specialist, determined by qualifications and experience (see rank qualifications)

SALARY
$39,500-$67,900 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field at the time of application.
• A minimum of one year of previous laboratory research experience (experience gained during undergraduate studies or post baccalaureate).

POSITION AVAILABLE

DURATION OF POSITION
Initial appointment will be full-time for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.
