Position description

The Department of Psychology [https://psychology.ucsc.edu/] at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for two tenure-track positions in Cognitive Psychology with a focus on language and interaction. We welcome applications from scholars investigating any topic in the study of human communication, but we are particularly interested in scholars who study issues such as how to ensure successful communication between individuals, negotiate multi-party conversations, or reach group consensus. We are also interested in hiring scholars who study how individual and group communicative behaviors are mediated by technology, including communication with artificial and virtual agents. More generally, we seek colleagues who will complement our existing strengths in Learning and Memory, Language and Interaction, and Perception and Performance.

Applicants should be actively engaged in research with the promise of continued research productivity. In addition, they should be capable of teaching graduate and undergraduate courses and contribute significantly to the mentoring of graduate students. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate must work well with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. UC Santa Cruz is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with a high proportion of first generation undergraduate students.

We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing women and minorities who are underrepresented in higher education careers (as evidenced by life experiences and educational background), and who have experience in equity and diversity with respect to teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
