Position description

The History & Civics Project (HCP) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Program Manager position. The mission of The History & Civics Project, a regional site of the California History –Social Science Project, is to improve the teaching and learning of history and civics in California schools. Through a variety of grants and contracts, the HCP provides professional development and support to K-12 educators and agencies and works closely with educational agencies on various projects.

Under the direction of the site director and principal investigator, the Program Manager will provide oversight and coordination across project initiatives and programs to ensure they align with Project objectives and capacity; manage event planning; execute outreach and publicity processes; oversee the collection, reporting, and entry of data; manage and administer grants and contracts and their accompanying budgets; provide general oversight of the HCP’s daily operations; determine and oversee project needs including staff and academic personnel resources, participants’ access to facilities (on and off-campus) and equipment; contribute to literature and resource reviews; collaborate with the site director and principal investigator to develop targeted programs and materials; and serve as a liaison among various constituencies on campus and in the K-12 community. The position requires that the selected candidate possess strong communication and project-management skills, work accurately with close attention to detail, and be proficient with varied computer applications. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is essential.

Applicants with expertise in any of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Project management experience;
  • Experience with writing or administering grants;
  • Background in history or the social sciences, which might include a graduate or undergraduate degree in history or the social sciences, extracurricular undergraduate courses in history or the social sciences, or public history work; and/or
  • Administrative or teaching experience in K-12 educational settings

SALARY
Starting salary range of $53,304-$55,378, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the appointment’s percentage of time.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent foreign degree) at the time of application.

POSITION AVAILABLE
As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.

DURATION OF POSITION
Initial appointment will be at fifty percent time (50%) for a period of twelve-months, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.
