Position description

The Mathematics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) expects to have one or more Visiting Assistant Professorships subject to availability of funding. We welcome applications from candidates whose field of research aligns well with the Department’s research activities. Under the direction of the Mathematics Department Chair, the Visiting Assistant Professor will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate degree programs, teach, mentor and advise students at the graduate and undergraduate level individually and in the classroom, and undertake service obligations for the department. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service.

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD (or equivalent foreign degree) in Mathematics or closely related field. It is expected that the degree requirement will be completed by August 31, 2020.
  • Record of research (established prior or post degree)
  • Record of teaching college level Mathematics

POSITION AVAILABLE
July 1, 2020, with fall quarter beginning September 26, 2020. Appointments are contingent upon availability of funding. Degree requirement must be completed by August 31, 2020 for employment effective September 26 , 2020 and beyond.

DURATION OF POSITION
Initial appointment will be full-time for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.

Reference Requirement
Applications must include confidential letters of recommendation* (a minimum of three are required and a maximum of six will be accepted).
