The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an Assistant Adjunct Professor to serve as the Molecular Ecologist and CALeDNA Program Director. Under the direction of the Chair of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, this adjunct faculty member will manage the EEB core molecular biology lab and provide training and mentorship for EEB undergraduate and graduate students in a range of molecular techniques. The selected candidate will teach courses in Molecular Ecology, Evolution, Systematic Botany, Advanced Genomics, and other subjects as needed. The incumbent will develop their own extramurally funded research program and collaborate with EEB Faculty and other personnel. In addition, the Molecular Ecologist and CALeDNA Program Director will develop and maintain programs targeting undergraduate and citizen science research to build upon existing CALeDNA resources and collaborations.

Candidates should have experience working with the CALeDNA consortium (or a similar citizen science program), excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a record of successful collaboration with academic and non-academic partners such as policymakers and other scientific stakeholders.

Applicants with experience running a common-use research facility, experience using diverse molecular and ecological research approaches, experience in administration at the university level, and/or a strong history of publication in the scientific literature expertise are strongly encouraged to apply.

Appointments in the Adjunct Professor series are generally supported primarily by non-State funds. This position is fully supported by state funds and contingent upon the Chancellor’s approval of an exception to policy.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • A PhD (or equivalent foreign degree) in ecology, botany, biology, zoology, molecular biology, or a related discipline at the time of application.
  • A minimum of five years of post-degree academic research experience in a discipline relevant to the advertised position.
  • A minimum of one year of post-degree teaching and/or mentoring experience in a discipline relevant to the advertised position.

DURATION OF POSITION
Initial appointment will be full‐time for two years. Reappointment may be considered contingent upon the availability of work and appropriate funding.
