Position description

Stevenson College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for qualified part-time temporary lecturers to teach the Stevenson 96 Peer Tutoring course, which serves undergraduates who are hired as Tutors and Learning Assistants in the Learning Support Services (LSS) program. Course topics include, but are not limited to, introduction and training in the area of Learning Theory ; small group and individual tutoring techniques; effective communication skills; methods for attaining cultural competence as an educator; effective university-level, discipline-specific learning strategies; and informal assessment and evaluation techniques.

LSS provides course-specific academic support for all UCSC undergraduate students. Stevenson 96 Peer Tutoring instructors are responsible for facilitating the coordination and communication among students and staff involved with Learning Support Services. LSS staff will work collaboratively with the instructor to present relevant content and information for the course.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Lecturer

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the Lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree) at the time of application or a minimum of four years of professional experience in professional development of undergraduate tutors in theory and practice.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate students in a college tutoring program.

POSITION AVAILABLE
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.
