Position description

Merrill College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of part-time lecturers who may be appointed to teach a course or courses that contribute to one or more of the college’s long-standing interests. These include social justice, public service, and understanding intersections between developed and developing worlds. Applicants should be able to draw from expertise in arts, engineering, humanities, physical and biological sciences, or social sciences.

Applicants with the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: (1) professional experience in social justice or public service organizations or professional experience in arts or media production (e.g., theater, film, journalism); and (2) university-level teaching experience as instructor of record or teaching experience with courses that are organized around fieldwork, service learning, or experiential education.

The college is particularly interested in applicants with a demonstrated record of working effectively with students from a wide range of social, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Lecturer

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree (or equivalent foreign degree) at the time of application; or five years of professional experience in a relevant area such as journalism, non-profit management, field program coordination, film production, educational administration, etc. at the time of application.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.

POSITION AVAILABLE
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters). Appointments may also be made during Summer Session.
