Position description

The Department of Computational Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a game user experience specialist. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Edward Melcer, the specialist will support research projects exploring the player experience of character death in platformer video games and the use of Augmented Reality (AR) to enhance empathy and collaboration in educational games. This will include developing prototypes for educational and entertainment games, participating in the process of conducting studies to evaluate the efficacy and player experience of prototyped games, and collaborating on the writing of academic papers reporting study results.

Applicants with expertise in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), game user experience research, game prototyping, and writing academic game research papers are strongly encouraged to apply.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Junior Specialist

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in digital media studies, computer science, or HCI at the time of application.

POSITION AVAILABLE
As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.

DURATION OF POSITION
Initial appointment will be made at 75% time (with the possibility of increase) for one year. Reappointment may be considered contingent upon the availability of work and appropriate funding.
