Position description

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Clinical Trainee for the 2021-2022 academic year. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) has four (4) positions open for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Counseling and Psychological Services provides a variety of services to UCSC undergraduate and graduate students, including brief individual therapy, crisis intervention, group psychotherapy, Let’s Talk drop-in consultations, outreach and educational programming, referrals, consultation for non-clients (e.g. staff, faculty, family members), as well as Psychiatry Services and training for Doctoral level Psychology Interns and Postdoctoral Clinical Trainees.

There are two areas of focus available for the Postdoctoral Clinical Trainee.

Qualified applicants can apply for one or both of the following tracks:

  • General Focus - 3 positions: Focus on general clinical service delivery.
  • Trauma Focus - 1 position: Focus on general clinical service delivery with a special emphasis on working with students who have experienced interpersonal trauma.

The Postdoctoral Clinical Trainee will be expected to conduct brief individual therapy, crisis intervention, case management, group psychotherapy, and primary prevention and outreach for University students and will attend regularly scheduled case conferences, supervisions, and CAPS staff meetings. https://caps.ucsc.edu/training/post-doctoral-fellowship.html

SALARY and BENEFITS: $48,900 annually; Medical benefits, paid sick leave and holidays in accordance with university policies, and two weeks approved leave.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program
  • Completion of an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited Doctoral Internship
  • Experience and skills in brief therapy, crisis intervention, and group therapy
  • Experience and skills in mental health outreach and psychoeducation for a college student population
  • Skills and experience working with a diverse population

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in a university counseling center; Demonstrated strong interest and commitment to social justice
Additional Qualification for Trauma Focus: Experience and interest in providing services to individuals who have experienced interpersonal trauma.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Successful completion of a criminal history background check is required.

DURATION OF APPOINTMENT: Postdoctoral Clinical Trainee appointments are full-time for one year.
