Position description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar under the direction of Associate Professor Mircea Teodorescu. The successful candidate will be an engineer or scientist who will join a multidisciplinary team developing hardware, software and cloud computing techniques that monitor physiological development of in-vivo and ex-vivo biological systems. Applicants with research expertise in cleanroom microfabrication as well as developing microfluidics devices or similar fields are strongly encouraged to apply. Prior work with biological systems is optional. Duties will include designing and performing experiments and theoretical models, writing papers and reports, and working alongside undergraduate and graduate students.

UC Santa Cruz campus is located approximately 75 miles from San Francisco and 35 miles from the heart of Silicon Valley. In 2016-17, the Times Higher Education ranked UC Santa Cruz 4th in research influence. The campus comprises two thousand acres of forested hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Monterey Bay with one of the most visually spectacular settings in higher education.

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum annual salary rates are made based on the individual’s Experience Level, which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in electrical and computer engineering, applied physics, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related fields.

POSITION AVAILABLE
As openings occur. Ph.D. must be in hand at time of the initial appointment.

MAXIMUM DURATION OF SERVICE IN A POSTDOCTORAL TITLE
Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time; the initial appointment is for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Reappointment will be contingent upon positive performance review and availability of funding. The total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Under limited circumstances, an exception to this limit may be considered, not to exceed a sixth year.
