The Department of Languages and Applied Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of part-time lecturers who may be appointed to teach Japanese language courses.
Applicants with any of the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Expertise and/or a graduate degree in Japanese linguistics, applied linguistics, or a closely related field.
- Professional experience in Japan or related to Japanese language.
- One or more years of independent teaching at the college or university level.
- Master’s degree in any field related to language or teaching.
The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties, and who have experience teaching the targeted language both as a second language and as a heritage language. Candidates are expected to have native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and they are expected to have extensive training in language pedagogy.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (or equivalent foreign degree) in Japanese language or related field at the time of application.
- One year of independent foreign language teaching experience.
