Position title: Associate Project Scientist, Epigenomics
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Percent time: Full-time (100%)
Anticipated start: As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.
Position duration: Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.

Position description

The Department of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the Associate Project Scientist Epigenomics position. Under the direction of Dr. Angela Brooks, the scientist will engage in the planning and execution of research that uses biochemical and genomic approaches to understand mechanisms of gene regulation through epigenetic changes.

Research activities include, but are not limited to, mammalian tissue culture and generating cell lines, performing chromatin immunoprecipitation experiments, performing epigenomic profiling techniques coupled with short- and long-read sequencing technologies, developing new methods for epigenomic profiling, generating transcriptome libraries for short- or long-read sequencing, and computational data analysis. This position will require the incumbent to exercise good time management and problem-solving skills, perform and document research in an organized, methodical, and analytical manner; contribute to writing and data analysis for publications; work both independently and with a team; and contribute to the training of students at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

Applicants with any of the following qualfications are strongly encouraged to apply: expertise in chromatin biology and epigenomics; experience working with long-read sequencing technology platforms, including nanopore sequencing; and/or demonstrated excellence in academic research as evidenced by a record of peer-reviewed first or co-first author publications.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in biochemistry, bioengineering, molecular biology, genomics, or related scientific field; at least four years of biological wet lab research experience after obtaining the degree; and a research record of peer-reviewed first or co-first author publications.
