Position description

The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an assistant research scientist in mathematical biology. Under the direction of Dr. Marcella Gomez, the research scientist will lead one of the research tasks in a BETR DARPA project entitled “Bioelectronic Intelligent Control of Wound Regeneration.” Responsibilities include carrying out research in modeling wound healing and optimal therapy strategies, advising experiments, advising student research, preparing monthly updates, preparing quarterly written reports, and leading publications on related research.

Applicants with expertise in modeling biological systems and, in particular, experience modeling wound healing are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD (or an equivalent foreign degree) in applied mathematics or related field and one year of research experience in wound healing (obtained after earning doctoral degree).
