Position title: Turner-Evans Lab: Research Specialist (Junior Specialist rank)
Salary range: Starting at $46,800 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Percent time: Full-time (100%)
Anticipated start: As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.
Position duration: Initial appointment will be for six months. Reappointment may be considered contingent upon the availability of work and appropriate funding.

Position description

The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a research specialist. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Daniel Turner-Evans, the research specialist will participate in research in systems neuroscience with a central role in the lab’s goal of understanding neural circuits for navigation. Duties include assisting with the general set up of the laboratory (including purchasing of laboratory supplies), building experimental apparatuses, maintaining Drosophila stocks, and performing molecular and/or behavioral experiments. The position will require the research specialist to demonstrate good time management, organizational and problem-solving skills; perform tasks in a clean and organized manner; work accurately; and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

B.S. or B.A. degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in neuroscience, biology, physics, chemistry, optics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or a related field.
