Position overview

Position title: Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology Pre-six Lecturer
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.
Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.
Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2022 through fall quarter 2023. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position description

The Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach METX 119-Microbiology or METX 135-Functional Anatomy (see the UCSC Course Catalog for course descriptions). Teaching assistants may be assigned to assist instructors as needed, and will be supervised by the instructor.

Outstanding candidates with experience teaching general microbiology or anatomy and related courses are encouraged to apply. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year of university teaching experience in the advertised areas.
