Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar – Human-Centered Modeling and Adaptive Systems
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience with a minimum annual salary of $65,000. Minimum annual salary rates are made based on the individual’s Experience Level, which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution. Percent time: Full-time
Anticipated start: As openings occur. Ph.D. must be in hand at time of the initial appointment.
Position duration: MAXIMUM DURATION OF SERVICE IN A POSTDOCTORAL TITLE Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time; the initial appointment is for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Reappointment will be contingent upon positive performance review and availability of funding. The total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Under limited circumstances, an exception to this limit may be considered, not to exceed a sixth year.

Position description

The Department of Computational Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar who will work under the direction of Dr. Seif El-Nasr, Professor of Computational Media and Director of the GUII (Game User Intelligence and Interaction) Lab. The successful candidate will work on several projects focusing on two basic areas of research: (1) human-in-the-loop modeling and visualization from game data, and (2) development of psychological adaptive systems for the purpose of coaching and teaching within games or other media, where adaptation is triggered by assessment of learning or psychological states, such as emotions or well-being.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in computer science or a related field, and at least 3 years of experience in human-computer interaction, computational modeling, and artificial intelligence (experience may be obtained while in student status). Ph.D. must be in hand at time of the initial appointment.
