Position overview

Position title: Assistant Adjunct Professor, Associate Adjunct Professor, and Adjunct Professor
Salary range: Salary is based on UC pay scales and market conditions commensurate with the level of appointment. As a minimum, one half of the funding for the base salary shall come from non-state funds. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Percent time: Variable (0-100%), the appointments’ percentage of time will depend on the level of engagement of the positions’ activities in research, teaching and service.
Anticipated start: This recruitment is valid for initial appointments effective September 2022 through August 2023. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
Position duration: Appointments are typically made as fiscal year, term appointments (see CAPM 512.280 Adjunct Professor Series).

Position description

The Technology and Information Management Program under the Baskin School of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of assistant adjunct professors, associate adjunct professors. Adjunct faculty members are expected to engage in research or other creative activity, teaching, and university and public service. Appointments in this series may be assigned to academic scholars currently affiliated with other universities, or to qualified individuals who are professional practitioners of appropriate distinction when such an affiliation supports the academic and professional endeavors of the department. These appointments forge closer relations between the university and other academic institutions or industry, are frequently self-funded, and involve a limited length of service. Academically qualified research or other creative personnel who contribute significantly to teaching either in formal courses or in guidance of graduate students in one or more of the areas below are encouraged to apply. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to diversity of scholarly activity and add additional dimension to the Baskin School of Engineering by complementing or augmenting our existing research strengths.

Current areas of excellence and research foci within Technology Management include, but are not limited to, all areas of the management of technology, including knowledge management, information retrieval (or data mining), artificial intelligence and machine learning as applied to management, artificial intelligence in finance, information technology systems design, operations research, entrepreneurship, services engineering, marketing and sales of information technology, product management, and product development.

UC Santa Cruz is the University of California campus nearest to Silicon Valley and maintains close ties with local industry in the fields of computer science/engineering, and technology management. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in computer science, economics, electrical engineering, industrial and systems engineering, operations research, management, statistics, or closely related or relevant field.
  • Demonstrated record of research and teaching.
