FISCAL YEAR Non-exempt
. “Off-scale salaries”, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. A reasonable estimate for this position is $49,000 -52,200 annual salary resulting in an hourly rate of $23.47-25.00.
Percent time: Part-time (50%)
Anticipated start: June 1, 2023
Position duration: Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.

Position description

Dr. Ari Friedlaender in the Department of Ocean Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Marine Mammal Biologging Specialist. Under the direction of Dr. Friedlaender, the specialist will conduct biologging field work to study the underwater behavior and ecology of marine mammals. This includes maintaining biologging electronics and a database of biologging data from marine mammals around the world. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to statistical analyses and the writing of scientific papers to be published in peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in ocean sciences or a related field.
  • One year of university level, post-degree research experience.
