Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The posted UCSC salary scales set the minimum pay based on the individual’s Experience Level, which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution. See the salary scale titled, Postdoctoral Scholar-Employee /Postdoctoral Scholar-Fellow / Postdoctoral Scholar-Paid Direct -Fiscal Year. A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,480 - $71,908
Percent time: Full-time (100%)
Anticipated start: As soon as possible after initial review of the applications. Ph.D. must be in hand at the time of the initial appointment.
Position duration: Maximum Duration of Service in a Postdoctoral Title: Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time and the initial appointment is for a minimum of two years, with the possibility of reappointment. The total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution.

Position description

The Department of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the Postdoctoral Scholar positions. Under the direction of Andy Yeh, the postdoctoral scholar will design and develop de novo luminescence probes and biosensors for deep tissue imaging, specifically for functional imaging in oncology and cell therapy studies. This project involves collaboration, and the postdocs will actively contribute independently while also receiving mentorship from partners at Harvard and UC Irvine to accomplish the outlined objectives. This position is currently supported for 2-4 years and may be extended contingent on project funding availability and/or collaborative effort provided to other projects.

Previous expertise in molecular cloning, plasmid construction, and protein engineering is required. Applicants with expertise in in vivo imaging, synthetic biology, directed evolution, or computational protein design are strongly encouraged to apply. Excellent written and communication skills are expected.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in engineering or biological sciences-related field with research experience in biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, or immunology. PhD must be in hand at the time of initial appointment (rather than at the time of application).
