Position description

The Politics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Politics of Public Policy. The Department seeks a scholar whose work focuses on the politics of public policy as it relates to issues of race, class, or gender; and/or the impact of policies on underrepresented, marginalized, and/or vulnerable groups. The area or areas of public policy are open, and we welcome applications from scholars whose work focuses on criminal justice, policing, incarceration, health, immigration, education, domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking. Studies that engage the domestic, comparative, or global level are welcome, as are empirical, historical, or critical theoretical approaches.

Candidates will be expected to teach in both the undergraduate and Ph.D. programs in the Politics department and teach one course per year in the proposed MA Program in Social Science and Public Policy. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community, and we encourage both domestic and international candidates to apply.

RANK: Assistant Professor

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (9-month) basis.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Political Science or related field is expected to be conferred by June 30, 2017; Demonstrated record of research and teaching.

POSITION AVAILABLE: July 1, 2017, with academic year beginning September 2017. Degree must be conferred by June 30, 2018 for employment beyond that date.
