The Department of Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure track (Assistant Professor) or tenured (Associate or Full Professor) position in the area of Cyber-Physical Systems. In addition to the basic qualifications, applicants at the Associate or Full Professor level should have a demonstrated record of publications, demonstrated experience in university teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, demonstrated record of extramural funding, and a demonstrated record of university and professional service. We seek outstanding applicants with research focus on safety, security, privacy, and resilience of systems having computer and network systems integrated with physical processes with applications to autonomous vehicles, distributed wearable systems, healthcare and independent living, or other areas in which safety, security, privacy, and resilience is challenged by the combination of physics, computers, and the environment. The successful candidate is expected to develop a research program, advise graduate students in their research area, obtain external funding, develop and teach courses within the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, perform university, public, and professional service, and be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. They are also expected to participate in the Cyber-Physical Systems Research Center and contribute to its activities. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. Departmental research has several areas of excellence: computer systems, cyber-physical systems, design technologies, embedded and autonomous systems, networks, robotics and control, and sensor technology. UCSC is the nearest University of California campus to Silicon Valley and has close research ties with the local computer industry.
RANK: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (9-month) basis
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant field, expected to be completed by June 30, 2018; demonstrated record of research and teaching.
POSITION AVAILABLE: July 1, 2018 (with academic year beginning September 2018). All Ph.D. requirements must be completed by June 30, 2019 for employment beyond that date.
