Position description

Porter College (https://porter.ucsc.edu) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of part-time Lecturers who may be appointed to teach in one or more of the following subject areas: Arts, Engineering, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. Successful candidates will be expected to teach 2-credit or 5-credit courses in their area of expertise.

Porter College is especially dedicated to fostering achievement in the arts and humanities. Applicants with expertise in art history, creative writing, dance, environmental art, film and video, literature, philosophy of art, photography, theater arts, and visual art are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are also interested in applicants with college-level teaching experience and/or experience teaching first-year university students.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Lecturer

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the Lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree (or equivalent foreign degree) at the time of application; or two years of artistic and creative work, consisting of publications, performances, exhibitions, or installations (at the time of application); or two years of scholarship published in print or web-based media (at the time of application).

POSITION AVAILABLE
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD
Applications for this recruitment will be accepted beginning August 1, 2018 through June 1, 2020. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments beginning fall quarter 2018 through spring quarter 2021. Initial appointments made after this period must be made through other recruitments.
