Position description

The Music Department http://music.ucsc.edu/ at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of part-time Lecturers who may be called upon to teach courses at the lower-division course level. We seek applications from outstanding candidates with relevant teaching experience who can teach courses in the Music 11 series and/or the Music 80 series. These course series’ include special topic courses such as Introduction to World Music, Introduction to American Popular Music, Music of the Beatles, Film Music, Music of India, History of Jazz, etc.).

Applicants with experience in college level teaching or who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the Music undergraduate and graduate programs (Music Ph.D., D.M.A, and M.A.) through teaching and other assigned duties are strongly encouraged to apply.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Lecturer

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the Lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in Music (at the time of application); or four years of artistic and creative work consisting of a national and/or international record of performances, exhibitions, or installations in music venues, museums, galleries, and festivals, and evidence of scholarship in peer-reviewed journals, web, and/or book publications (at the time of application).

POSITION AVAILABLE
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD
Applications for this recruitment will be accepted beginning August 1, 2018 through June 1, 2020. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments beginning fall quarter 2018 through spring quarter 2021. Initial appointments made after this period must be made through other recruitments.
