Position description

The Institute of Marine Sciences [https://ims.ucsc.edu/] at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for Fisheries Specialists. Under the direction of the Deputy Director of the UCSC-NOAA Fisheries Collaborative Program at the Institute of Marine Sciences, the Fisheries Specialists will work with NOAA science advisors and UCSC researchers to generate the scientific information necessary for the conservation and management of California’s living marine resources.

Applicants who possess previous work experience with NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center and specifically with the Fisheries Ecology Division, the Environmental Research Division, and/or the Fisheries Resources Division are strongly encouraged to apply.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Junior Specialist – Full Specialist, determined by qualifications and experience (see rank qualifications at https://apo.ucsc.edu/policy/capm/602.330.html)

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in Fisheries, Ocean Sciences, Environmental Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Biology, Marine Sciences, Hydrology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or related field at the time of application.

POSITION AVAILABLE
As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.

DURATION OF POSITION
Initial appointment will be full time or part time depending on the project need for a period of initial appointment of one to two years with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.
