Position description

The Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics (SCIPP) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the SCIPP Theory Scientist position. Under the direction of Professors Stefano Profumo, Michael Dine, and Howard Haber, the incumbent will conduct research in theoretical particle physics. Additionally, the SCIPP Theory Scientist will guide graduate and undergraduate students with their research, monitoring and steering their progress towards completing the projects they are pursuing.

We seek motivated and energetic candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Applicants with the any of the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: a strong background in field theory and in the theory of elementary particles, strong quantitative skills, and/or excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

SALARY
Starting at $63,700 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in Physics or a related field at the time of application.
  • A minimum of five years’ post-PhD research experience in theoretical physics.

DURATION OF POSITION
Initial appointment will be full‐time for 1 year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.
