Position description

The Sociology Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of part-time Lecturers who may be appointed to teach various undergraduate courses such as: Introduction to Sociology; Issues and Problems in American Society; World Society; Classical Social Theory; Contemporary Social Theory; The Evaluation of Evidence; Statistical Methods; Family and Society; Death and Dying; Sociology of Knowledge; Gender, Race/Ethnicity, Sexuality, and Cultural Politics ; Health and Medicine; Sociology of Emotions; Social Inequality; Sociology of Masculinities; Popular Culture; Social Problems; Social Psychology; Ethnicity and Race; Environmental Inequality; Media, Marketing, and Culture; and other electives (see the UCSC Course Catalog for a complete list of courses).

The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Lecturer

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the Lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or higher (or equivalent foreign degree) in sociology or other fields relevant to the advertised position in the social sciences or humanities. The degree requirement must be met at the time of application.
  • A minimum of one year of university-level teaching experience.

POSITION AVAILABLE
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but there may also be openings during Summer Session.
