Position description

The Economics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a position in economic theory at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) level. We also welcome applications from candidates with significant empirical and experimental research as long as their work makes theoretical contributions or advances innovative methodologies to bring models to the data. The department has a fully equipped lab for running experiments.

The Economics Department has a Ph.D. program, a professional Master’s program, and several undergraduate programs. Applicants will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; contribute to graduate education, the research environment of the department, and to university and professional service.

Successful candidates must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing traditionally underrepresented groups in higher education, and who have engaged in teaching, research, professional and/or public service contributions that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. These can take a variety of forms such as, but not limited to, effective pedagogical strategies used for the educational advancement of students in underrepresented groups; demonstrated contributions to the advancement of access and equal opportunity in education; and participation in activities that support the recruitment, retention, and success of scholars and students.

The position is also available at the tenured associate or full professor rank as JPF00942-21 (https://recruit.ucsc.edu/apply/JPF00942). Applicants who wish to be considered for the associate of full rank position must apply separately to that recruitment. Applicants may apply to both recruitments.
