Position description

The Baskin School of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Full Teaching Professor in the Technology and Information Management (TIM) undergraduate program, which resides within the Baskin School of Engineering. Baskin Engineering is known for interdisciplinary research and education centered in six departments: Applied Mathematics, Biomolecular Engineering, Computational Media, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Statistics. The TIM program draws on faculty from three of these departments. UCSC is the nearest University of California Campus to Silicon Valley and has close ties with the local industry.

The Baskin School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz has nationally and internationally known researchers in many areas. UC Santa Cruz is a member of the AAU, an association of the top research universities in the US. Our campus is the nearest University of California campus to Silicon Valley and has close research ties with the local computer industry. Nestled in a redwood forest above the city of Santa Cruz, our beautiful campus has a long history of embracing groundbreaking interdisciplinary work. Our proximity to Silicon Valley, and our satellite campus there, afford opportunities and avenues for collaboration with researchers working in the many research and development labs in Silicon Valley, as well as with the other San Francisco Bay Area universities.

The successful candidate is expected to teach and carry out administrative and programmatic responsibilities. The requirements for the position are to develop and teach courses within the undergraduate curriculum; lead strategic planning efforts for the program, evaluate the effectiveness of the program and make changes to improve program curriculum, provide better education and service to students; establish relationships with industry, in order to inform curriculum decisions, contribute to student placement in internships and full-time positions, and solicit industry projects for students; work as a bridge between this program and serve as the program’s representative and advocate in the Senate faculty. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to technology innovation in Baskin Engineering and beyond. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, staff and industry partners from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Teaching Professor (Senior Lecturer with Security of Employment)
The Teaching Professor title confers the rights and responsibilities of membership in the Academic Senate and has the payroll title of “Senior Lecturer with Security of Employment” (SLSOE). "Security of Employment" is analogous to tenure at the rank of Full Professor.

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (nine-month basis).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in Engineering (e.g., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Math, Statistics, Information Science), Management (e.g., Business, Accounting, Business and Public Policy, Management of Organizations, Marketing, Operations and Information Technology Management, entrepreneurship), Social Sciences (Economics, Finance, Public Policy) or related field at time of application; demonstrated experience in university teaching; demonstrated experience in working in industry; demonstrated experience in mentoring and advising students; demonstrated record of scholarly activities with publications.

POSITION AVAILABLE
July 1, 2021, with the academic year beginning in September 2021. Position contingent on budgetary approval.
