Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Analysis
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The posted UCSC salary scales set the minimum pay based on the individual’s Experience Level, which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution. See the salary scale titled, Postdoctoral Scholar-Employee /Postdoctoral Scholar-Fellow / Postdoctoral Scholar-Paid Direct -Fiscal Year. A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,480 - $71,908.
Percent time: Full-time (100%)
Anticipated start: As soon as July 1, 2024 but no later than September 1, 2024.
Position duration: Maximum Duration of Service in a Postdoctoral Title- Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time and the initial appointment is for a minimum of two years, with the possibility of reappointment. The total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Ph.D must be in hand at the time of initial appointment.

Position description

Assistant Professor Roozbeh Gharakhloo in the Mathematics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position, Postdoctoral Scholar in Analysis.

We are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated record of published research (including Ph.D. thesis) whose research interests align with those of Professor Gharakhloo. Broadly, these include Riemann-Hilbert problems, analysis of orthogonal polynomials and structured determinants (e.g. Toeplitz, Hankel, etc.), and their applications in other research areas such as Random Matrix Theory and Mathematical Physics. The selected candidate will conduct research in one or more of the above fields and will collaborate with Professor Gharakhloo, other faculty members, and graduate students.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • PhD (or equivalent foreign degree) in mathematics or a closely related field. It is expected that the degree requirement will be completed by August 31, 2024.
  • Evidence of research productivity (pre- or post-degree), including dissertation, publications, works in progress, and/or presentations.
  • Research experience in Riemann-Hilbert problems\orthogonal polynomials\structured determinants (e.g. Toeplitz, Hankel, etc.), and their applications in other research areas such as Random Matrix Theory and Mathematical Physics.
