Position description
The Department of History of Art and Visual Culture at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach either during the academic year or Summer Session. We seek applications from outstanding candidates with experience to teach historic or contemporary period (see our list of courses) in the following visual cultures:
- Africa and its diaspora
- Asia and its diaspora
- Europe and the Americas
- The Mediterranean
- Native Americas
- Oceania and is diaspora
The members of the department are committed to the investigation of art and visual culture from a wide range of theoretical perspectives. We seek colleagues with secure knowledge of visual materials and demonstrated interest in examining such materials and related issues within contexts of culture and history. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching.

Qualifications
- M.A. or MFA in art history/visual culture or relevant field of study (e.g., media studies or communication); or M. Arch. Equivalent Foreign degrees will be considered.
- Teaching experience at the college or university level.

Cover Letter - Letter of application that addresses scholarly background, the advertised visual cultures region that you feel you are qualified to teach, and a description of your teaching.
Writing Sample - Preferably a published article, book chapter, or dissertation chapter.
