The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Theoretical/Computational Chemistry. We are interested in candidates with research goals in all aspects of materials design, characterization and applications in fields such as energy, biomedicine and photonics with special emphasis on the development and utilization of electronic structure computational methods. Creative scientists with a strong record of achievement and commitment to excellence in both research and teaching are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a new campus wide, interdisciplinary materials science program and have a strong commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including supervision and mentoring of graduate students. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the UCSC academic community through their research, teaching, and service.

RANK: Assistant Professor

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (9-month) basis

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in Chemistry or a related field and at least one year of additional research training such as postdoctoral or industrial experience at the time of application.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Training in computational quantum chemistry or physics. A demonstrated record of research and teaching excellence.
